The post of State Fire Warden was established under that of State Forester in 1911. Known by 1951 as chief fire warden in the Division of Forestry, Dept. of Conservation, in 1953 that official was designated as head of the Bureau of Fire Control (also known as Bureau of Forest Fire Control) in the Division of Forests and Parks, Dept. of Natural Resources (Dept. of Environmental Management since 1975).
