Leonard Withington (1789-1885) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy and Yale University in 1814, and served as minister of the First Church in Newbury, Massachusetts, from 1816 until his retirement in 1858. He was also the author of various published religious works.
