Elmer, William, 1788-1836.

William Elmer was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey to Dr. Jonathan and Mary Elmer on March 23, 1788. He graduated from the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1811. In 1812 he returned to Bridgeton to set up medical practice, but retired in 1822. He was an active member of the Cumberland District Medical Society. Dr. Elmer suffered from rheumatism during the later part of his life and it is attributed to hastening his early death, at the age of 48, on May 6, 1836.
