The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen was organized in 1900. It changed its name in 1908 to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. In 1969, the group merged with the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen, and the Switchmen’s Union of North America to form the United Transportation Union. The Legislative Board urged support of candidates who were favorable to labor issues and also presented legislation of interest to labor to candidates and members of the Legislature.
