William Parish, teacher, writer, lecturer, historian, economist, and civic worker was best known as a scholar and gentleman. His legacy is memorialized at the University of New Mexico's William J. Parish Memorial Business and Economics Library. William Jackson Parish was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania in 1907. He received degrees from Brown University and Harvard. He joined the faculty of the University of New Mexico in 1943, serving in succession as assistant professor and associate professor of economics and business administration, as professor of business administration, as acting head of the Department of Economics, as dean of the College of Business Administration, and finally as dean of the Graduate School. William Jackson Parish died in Albuquerque on May 4, 1964. Collection includes photograph of Emil Amberg, November 1937.

William Jackson Parish was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania in 1907. He received a Ph.B. degree from Brown University in 1929, an M.B.A. from Harvard in 1931, and a Doctor of Commercial Science (D.C.S.) from Harvard in 1950. Parish joined the staff of a Cleveland, Ohio bank in the early 1930's, later becoming associated with a Cleveland electric company and then with several Albuquerque firms. He joined the faculty of the University of New Mexico in 1943, serving in succession as assistant professor and associate professor of economics and business administration, as professor of business administration, as acting head of the Department of Economics, as dean of the College of Business Administration, and finally as dean of the Graduate School.

Parish published several books and journal articles including The Charles Ilfeld Company: A Study of the Rise and Decline of Mercantile Capitalism in New Mexico and The German Jew and the Commercial Revolution in Territorial New Mexico, 1850-1900. At the time of his death, Parish was researching the history of the First National Bank of Santa Fe. William Jackson Parish died in Albuquerque on May 4, 1964.
