Originally founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest honor society in the United States. Florida State College For Women (FSCW) attained the first or Alpha charter in the state of Florida in March of 1935, making it the first state college for women in the South to receive this recognition. Phi Beta Kappa remains active at Florida State University to the present day. The original and founding members of the 1935 FSCW Phi Beta Kappa Alpha Chapter include: FSCW President Edward C.
