Williamson, Alan (Alan Bacher), 1944-

Alan Bacher Williamson was born on January 24, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Jehanne (Bacher) Williamson. He earned a B.A. from Haverford College (1964), and an M.A. (1965) and Ph.D. (1969) from Harvard University. Williamson worked as Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia (1969-1975), Briggs-Copeland Lecturer at Harvard University (1977-1980), and Lecturer at Brandeis University (1980-1982) before joining the University of California, Davis faculty as Assistant Professor in 1982. Professor Williamson has served as Professor of English at UC Davis since 1983. His works include: "Westernness: a Meditation" (2006), "The Pattern More Complicated: New and Selected Poems" (2004), "Almost a Girl: Male Writers and Female Identification" (2001), "Res Publica" (1998), "Love and the Soul" (1995), "Eloquence and Mere Life: Essays on the Art of Poetry" (1994), "The Muse of Distance: Poems" (1988), "Introspection and Contemporary Poetry" (1984), "Presence: Poems" (1983), and "Pity the Monsters: The Political Vision of Robert Lowell" (1974).

Williamson worked as Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia (1969-1975), Briggs-Copeland Lecturer at Harvard University (1977-1980), and Lecturer at Brandeis University (1980-1982) before joining the University of California, Davis faculty as Assistant Professor in 1982.
