Merrick family.
Pliny Merrick (1755-1814) of Brookfield, Mass., graduated from Harvard in 1776 but chose to give up the ministry in 1784 to become a lawyer. He was an extensive land owner and also served in the state senate. Merrick married Ruth Cutler (1770-1841) of Brookfield and they raised seven children, including Pliny Merrick (1794-1867) of Worcester, district attorney and State Supreme Court Justice.
