Samuel Allen (1757-1830) was the son of James and Mary Adams Allen of Boston, Massachusetts. He came to Worcester in 1776 and became the assistant of his brother Joseph Allen (1749-1827), then Clerk of the Courts. From 1781 to 1830, Samuel Allen served as Treasurer of the County of Worcester.
Samuel Allen (1789-1863) was the son of Joseph and the nephew of Samuel. He assumed the title "Jr." for a time in order to distinguish himself from his uncle. Samuel Allen the younger was a major in the state militia and secretary of the Manufacturers Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He was the brother of Judge Charles Allen (1797-1869).
