Jenkins family

Hide Profile

Gustavus ("Gus") Evan Jenkins (1887-1982) and his wife, Martha ("Mattie") Myers Jenkins (1891-1974) moved to Hudson in 1910. Gus and Mattie chose Hudson because of its convenient train connection to Cleveland, Ohio, where Gus worked as a claim clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Gus and Mattie were longtime residents of 26 Baldwin and were actively involved in the Hudson community. Gus worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 51 years (retiring in 1958) and also served on the Hudson Village Council. Mattie was the superintendent at the First Christian Church Sunday School for ten years. Martha and Gus were involved in several Masonic groups and were founding members of Chapter 377 of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1914. Martha and Gus had one child, Betty (Jenkins) Grohe.
