Thomas, Elbert Duncan, 1883-1953
Variant namesElbert Duncan Thomas was born 17 June 1883. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1906 and then the University of California at Berkeley in 1924. He served in the Utah National Guard, was a professor of political science at the University of Utah from 1924 to 1933, and was elected to the United States Senate in 1932. He was reelected in 1938 and 1944, serving until 1950. He was involved with various committees and was appointed high commissioner of the United States trust territories of the Pacific in 1951. Thomas held that capacity until his death in 1953.
