Preceding the MSCNY was the Medical Society of New York, 1798-1806 [not held by the NYAM Library], of which Samuel Bard was a major participant. As an example of the numerous concerns addressed by the MSCNY: When the US federal government in postwar years produced a Professional Standards Review Organisation (1972), a system of local peer review by practicing physicians, the MSCNY became the local (Manhattan) administrator for the program, creating the NYCHSRO (New York County Health Standards Review Organisation).
