Worcester (Mass.)
Worcester, Worcester County Massachusetts is located on the Blackstone River forty-four miles southwest of Boston, Mass., and forty-three miles northwest of Providence, R.I. Originally known as Quonsigamog or Quinsigamond, it was first settled in 1675 but was afterwards abandoned due to Indian attacks. Worcester was permanently settled in 1713, incorporated as a town in 1684, and as a city in 1848.
