Mitchell, Edna C. (Edna Clark), 1894-1993.
Dietician and civil engineer. Edna Clark Mitchell was born 4 November 1894 in Ames, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State College in 1917 with a degree in nutrition, but also took courses in mathematics and drafting. In World War I Edna served a a dietician, primarily stationed in South Carolina. She married Paul Mitchell after her discharge from the service, and they returned to Ames. After 10 years as a homemaker and the breakup of her marriage, Edna went to work as an engineer for the Iowa Highway Commission where she worked for 33 years. Among her responsibilities was the drafting of plans for maps, culverts, and road signs as well as the supervising of other women.
