Robinson, John C.
John C. Robinson enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1845 and served as commissary and later a regimental and brigade quartermaster in the 5th Infantry. During a distinguished U.S. Army career, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for valor during the Civil War, and retired a brigadier general in 1869. Robinson was also elected Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1872 and later served as commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic.
