George Allen and Unwin (publishers : active 1914-1986)
Founded as George Allen and Sons in 1871 and re-named George Allen and Unwin in 1914. The firm acquired Bell and Hyman in 1986 and became known and Unwin and Hyman Ltd, transferring its base to Australia. The firm was acquired by HarperCollins in 1990, and a management buy-out in Australia kept the name of Allen and Unwin there.
