James Madison Benson was born 1853 December 12 and was ordained by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in December 1899. He had previously taught school in Hyde County, North Carolina. He died on 1919 March 9. His son, James Reuben Benson, was born 1876 December 27 and died on 1894 October 31, while a student at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University).
