Davis was on the faculties of the schools of social work at Nebraska University, McGill University, and Howard University. She also served as a training consultant for the Social Security Administration and the Bureau of Public Assistance.

Alice Taylor Davis was one of the first graduates of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St Louis in 1932. Davis was known for her contributions to social work education. She was on the faculties of the schools of social work at Nebraska University, University of British Columbia, McGill University, and Howard University. She also served as a consultant on social work education, administration and training and spent 7 years was on the staff of the Technical Training Division of the Bureau of Public Assistant of the U.S. Department of Health Education and Welfare. In addition, Davis authored numerous books and articles.
