Lewis, Edward Gardner, 1869-
Variant namesEdward Gardner Lewis, businessman, promoter and magazine publisher, was born in Connecticut in 1869. In 1912, Lewis began purchasing land which would become Atascadero, California, a planned utopian colony (he had established an earlier colony in Missouri). Lewis had business and money troubles most of his life, was once investigated by the US Post Office for fraud and declared bankruptcy twice. He died in 1950.
