Local 128 was chartered in the early 1940s to represent workers at the Fort Dodge Serum Company which produced veterinary serums. In 1946 American Home Products bought the company and renamed it Fort Dodge Laboratories. American Home Products also owned plants in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, and Waterloo, as well as in other states.
