Newark Eagles (Baseball team)
The Newark Eagles was a professional Negro League baseball team that played in the second Negro National League from 1936 through 1948. Newark Eagles baseball team began in 1935 as the Brooklyn Eagles in New York. The team moved to Newark in 1936 and was renamed the Newark Eagles when the Newark Dodgers merged with the Brooklyn Eagles. The Eagles sported the likes of Hall-of-Famers Larry Doby, Monte Irvin, Ray Dandridge, Leon Day, and Willie Wells. The Eagles were the first professional team owned and operated by a woman, Effa Manley.
