Composer, musician, and professor, Isaac Nemiroff (1912-1977) was a founding member of the Department of Music at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Nemiroff first gained recognition through the performance of a work for modern dance in New York in 1948; a student of Stefan Wolpe, he eventually established his reputation as a composer primarily of chamber and orchestral music performed under the auspices of the International Society for Contemporary Music, the Composers' Forum, the American Music Festival, and other organizations fostering the development of modern music.
