According to the composer's List of Works, Performances, and Publications, the work was first performed on March 27, 1950.
Composer, musician, and professor, Isaac Nemiroff (1912-1977) was a founding member of the Department of Music at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Nemiroff first gained recognition through the performance of a work for modern dance in New York in 1948; a student of Stefan Wolpe, he eventually established his reputation as a composer primarily of chamber and orchestral music performed under the auspices of the International Society for Contemporary Music, the Composers' Forum, the American Music Festival, and other organizations fostering the development of modern music.
Sketches for the work bear the date 1949, and it was published by Theodore Presser in 1961.
