Thumel, Christian Bernhard.
A Lutheran pastor, Thummel had been received into the South Carolina Synod from the New York Synod in 1841. Prior to that he taught, 1830-1832, at Hartwick Seminary (then located in Otsego County, N.Y.); despite the apparent contentment with his appointment in Lexington, S.C., discussed in these letters of the early 1840s, in 1844, Thummel resigned and relocated to Ohio.
