Williams, Henry Smith, 1863-1943
Variant namesHenry Smith's family moved from Durand, Illinois to Charles City, Iowa in 1873. As a young boy he was interested in shooting and mounting birds. He graduated from the Chicago Medical School and became a physician at the State Insane Asylum in Independence, Iowa. He later went to work for a mental health hospital in Bloomingdale, New York and began writing articles for scientific magazines. He edited the 25 volume Historian's History of the World, and the 4 volume History of Art in Writing.
