Variant namesHans Juergensen was born December 17, 1919, in Myslowitz, Germany (now Poland). After serving with the U.S. Army in several European campaigns, he married Ilsa Dina Loebenberg is 1945. He received a B.A. from Upsala College in 1942 and a Ph.D. degree from Johns Hopkins in 1951. After teaching at the University of Kansas and at Quinnipiac College in Connecticut, Dr. Juergensen joined the faculty of the University of South Florida for the remainder of his academic career. He is the author of numerous volumes of poetry, translations, and criticism.

Born in Germany in 1919, Professor Hans Juergensen fled Nazi Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1934. He received a B.A. from Upsala College and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. From 1942-1945, Juergensen served in the U.S. Army and was wounded in Anzio. He was a professor of Humanities at the University of South Florida, and his poems have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Yale Literary Magazine, and American Judaism.

Hans Juergensen was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States to escape the Nazis in 1934. He received a B.A. from Upsala College and a Ph. D. from Johns Hopkins University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 and was wounded on Anzio. He is currently an a Professor of Humanities at the University of South Florida. Poems by Juergensen have appeared in The New York Times, Yale Literary Magazine, American Judaism and many other publications.
