Peick was born in Jones County, Iowa in 1933. She was a member of 5 local unions in Cedar Rapids and active in political, women's, and civic organizations. She was recording secretary and on the executive board of IBEW Local 1362; was vice-president and secretary of Hotel & Restaurant Employees Local 497; belonged to the Bakery and Confectionary Workers Local 1948; and Teamsters Local 238. Peick was a member of IBEW Local 1362 while working at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. She was also on the United Way Budget Review Panel; treasurer and president of the Linn County Democratic Women's Club; vice-president and secretary of the Hawkeye Labor Council; president of the Iowa State Auxiliaries, AFL-CIO; secretary-treasurer of the Iowa State Industrial Union Council; member of the Linn County Democratic Central Committee; member of the Iowa State Legislature; and delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
