Hide Profile

Incorporated in 1906 under the laws of the state of Washington (as the Inland Empire Railway Company, renamed later that year), the company purposed to take over four railroad properties: Coeur d'Alene and Spokane Railroad Company Ltd., Spokane Traction Company, Spokane and Inland Railway Company, and Spokane Terminal Company. The company also operated electric generating plants in the Spokane area. The railroad later defaulted on its bond payments and was placed in receivership on 10 January 1919, with F.E. Conners acting as receiver. The various properties were sold on 1 November 1919 to a representative of the bondholders and were divided into two daughter companies: Spokane and Eastern Railway and Power Company and the Inland Empire Railroad Company.
