Knoll, Denys W.

Denys W. Knoll, U.S. Naval officer, was born in 1907 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was a 1930 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He received a Master's degree in aeronautical engineering from MIT in 1939. He was on the staff of CIC, Asiatic Fleet, 1940-1942. During WWII, his assignments in meteorology took him to the Philippines and the Soviet Union. His assignments included CO, Destroyer Flotilla Four, 1959-60; CO, Service Force, Atlantic Fleet, 1961-63; and Oceanographer of the Navy, 1963-1965.
