Noble Jones Gregory was born in Mayfield, Kentucky on August 30, 1897. He attended local public schools and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1915. After graduation, he briefly studied at Mayfield Business College before being employed by a survey party constructing a road between Mayfield and Paris, Tennessee. In 1917, he began a career in banking as a clerk with the First National Bank of Mayfield. By 1936 Gregory had risen to Trust Officer and Cashier of the bank. From 1923 to 1936, he served as the secretary treasurer for the Mayfield Board of Education. He also acted as campaign manager for his older brother William V. Gregory, who was elected United States Representative for Kentucky's First District in 1926 and remained in office until his death in 1936. After the death of his brother, Noble was elected to fill his seat in Congress. He was re-elected ten times and served for eleven terms. He was defeated in the 1958 election by Frank A. Stubblefield. Gregory returned to the banking and investing profession in Mayfield. He died on September 26, 1971.

Noble Gregory was born in Mayfield, Ky. in 1897. He graduated from Mayfield Business College and went to work in the First national Bank of Mayfield, serving as a bookkeeper, cashier, and trust officer from 1917 to 1936. He was elected secretary-treasurer of the Mayfield Board of Education in 1923 and continued in that post until 1936. He also managed his brother Voris' campaigns for Congress from 1926 to 1936. Voris had succeeded Alben Barkley as First District Congressman when the future Vice-President had won election to the Senate. When Voris died suddenly during a campaign in 1936, Noble was chosen to run in his brother's stead. Noble was elected, serving the district until 1958. During his tenure in the House, Noble served on the committees for Post Offices and Post Roads, Internal Revenue, Taxation, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Ways and Means Committee.
