The Hebrew Free Loan Association was formed in 1887 as an organization whose purpose was to grant interest free loans to deserving individuals, both Jewish and non-Jewish, in need. In the beginning, the loans were granted in small amounts for food, rent, and healthcare, but later money was given for the resettlement of refugees.
