A native of Virginia, Weedon studied medicine under Dr. Buchanan in Philadelphia, Pa., and completed his medical education in Europe. He practiced medicine in Baltimore, Md., for several years; served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812; moved to Huntsville, Madison Co., Ala., and in 1816, to Tallahassee, Fla. In 1827 he became a surgeon in the Seminole War of 1836; was mayor of St. Augustine, Fla., in 1835; and became physician of Chief Osceola, who was brought to St. Augustine a captive. He married Mary Wells Thompson before 1835. In 1854 they moved to Dry Tortugas, Fla.

His son, Dr. Hamilton M. Weedon (b.1835) was a prominent physician first in Dry Tortugas, Fla., then Key West, and lastly in Eufaula, Ala. Hamilton studied medicine at the Albany Medical College (NY), obtaining his M.D. in 1855. After the Civil War began, he was assigned to the Fourth Florida Infantry as an assistant surgeon, later becoming chief surgeon of Gen. Breckinridge's division and chief surgeon under Gen. William B. Bates. After the war, he moved to Eufaula where he married Mary Elizabeth Christian Young in 1865. After retiring from practice, he opened the mercantile firm of Weedon and Dent.
