Historical Background

Marianna Tcherkassky, born in 1952, is a renowned ballerina. She began her ballet training with her mother and later studied at the School of American Ballet in New York on a full scholarship. In 1970, Tcherkassky joined the American Ballet Theatre in 1970 and was the principal dancer from 1976-1996. She retired from performing ballet in 1996 and began teaching throughout the United States and continues to teach today.
