Urbany, Mary Dominica, 1864-1936.

Born in Hobscheid, Luxemburg, Germany, Anna Urbany immigrated with her sister Mary to Festina, Iowa in 1871. In 1876 she entered St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wis., as a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, where she received the name, Sister M. Dominica. After final vows she taught school at Sparta, Wis., and for 20 years at New Vienna, Iowa. She then served as the first Sister Superior at St. Angela Institute (now Kuemper High School) in Carroll, Iowa, for 10 years. In 1928 she left the United States to pursue missionary work in Wuchang, Hupeh, China, until her death in 1936.
