It was founded by Barbara Lee, a former school teacher and social worker, who is committed to helping women gain and use political power as elected officials, activists, and voters. The conference consisted of workshops ranging from "Women, Labor Organizations and Their Political Influence" to "What's it Really Like to be a Woman in the Senate?" and included speeches by former Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright, Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun, Suffolk County (Mass.) Sheriff Andrea Cabral, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, Revolutionary Women President Barbara Lee, and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.)
