Faith Thompson was born in Minneapolis MN, and received her B.A.,M.A., and PH. D. from the University of Minnesota in 1917, 1919, and 1923. After teaching a year at Wooster College (Ohio), she began as an instructor in the University of Minnesota History Dept. Her special interests were English constitutional and legal history and the Magna Carta.

Faith Thompson was born on October 9, 1893 in Minneapolis. She received her B.A.(1917), M.A. (1919), and Ph.D. (1923) degrees from the University of Minnesota. After teaching one year at Wooster College (Wooster, Ohio), she was appointed instructor at the University of Minnesota in the history department in 1923. Professor Thompson's special interests were in the field of English constitutional and legal history, especially the Magna Carta, and was recognized as an international authority in these areas. This expertise is also reflected in two of her books, published by the University of Minnesota Press: First Century of the Magna Carta: Why it Persisted as a Document (1925), and Magna Carta. Its Role in the Making of the English Constitution (1948). Her book, Short History of Parliament, 1295-1692, was also published by the University Press in 1953. She was working on a volume of biographical sketches of famous 16th and 17th Century English lawyers at the time of her death on April 7, 1961.
