Dr. Harvey J. Stedman assumed the position of Executive Vice President for Planning on September 1, 1990 and then Senior Vice President in 1993. As representative to the Chancellor, Stedman was responsible for overseeing the work of other vice presidents and coordinating priority projects involving enrollment, academics, planning, staffing, finance, and budgeting for the university. Dr. Stedman received his B.A. from SUNY-Fredonia and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio University. After serving in various academic and administrative postions at Ohio University, Stedman joined the administration of University of Southern California in 1974 where he served as the executive director for administrative services for the School of Continuing Education and then finally the associate dean of the college. Dr. Stedman moved to New York University in 1982 when he was appointed Dean of the School of Continuing Education. He served as dean for the School of Ed. for eight years before he was named as Vice President for Planning. Steadman remained in this position for three years before he became Senior Vice President in 1993. President Jay Oliva appointed him Provost of the University in 2000.
