Alexander family.
Family of James Alexander, merchant, lawyer, and public official of colonial New York and New Jersey; including his wife Mary Alexander and their son, prominent Revolutionary soldier William Alexander (Lord Stirling). James Alexander was born in Scotland and emigrated to the America in 1715, where he served in various administrative offices, including surveyor-general of the Province of New Jersey, attorney-general of New Jersey, and member of the Councils of both New York and Jersey.
