Born in 1897 in Olean, New York, Latimer came to Texas in 1915 to work in the oil fields and rose through the ranks to the presidency of Magnolia Petroleum Company and Magnolia Pipeline Company in 1946 and chairman of the board of directors of the pipeline company in 1952.
Magnolia merged with Mobil Oil Company in 1959. A resident of Dallas from 1934, he was a civic leader and served on the boards of many charitable and cultural organizations. At the time of his death in 1968, he was a director of the Republic National Bank, Southwestern Life Insurance Company and Texas Utilities Company.
