Shepard, Charles E. (Charles Edward), 1848-1928
Variant namesBorn at Arcade, N.Y. Enlisted in the 82nd Infantry Regiment, N.Y.S.V. on 9 May 1861; wounded in action 8 June 1862. Mustered out as first lieutenant. After the war, he served as U.S. consul in Bradford, England and Yedo (Tokyo), Japan, where he was the first American to meet the Mikado.
