Union soldier during American Civil War; serving in the 1st Minnesota Battery, 4th Division, 17th Corps, Army of the Tennessee; born, 1842, in Corning, N.Y; Rowley was a resident of Minnesota at the time of enlistment; following the war, he moved, 1879, to Mitchell, S.D.; in 1888, to Huron, S.D.; in 1897, to Chicago; in 1899, to Winona, Minn.; in 1900, to Wausau, Wis.; in 1902, to Jackson, Miss.; in 1904, to Couer d'Alene, Idaho, and finally to Eugene Oregon, where he died in 1921; married to Harriet Beecher Ebersole (1854-1921).
