Sailor; served in the U.S. Navy, possibly as early as 1849; was held as a prisoner of war by the Confederate States of America, September 1863 -October 1864; commanded the U.S. Mist from November 1864 until the end of the Civil War, and then served aboard the U.S.S. Canandaigua; was honorably discharged in 1867; lived in Michigan and engaged in commercial pursuits there until his death in late 1891 or early 1892.
