  • 1948 - 49 : Worked with the law firm of Hill, Martin and Robinson, Richmond, Virginia.
  • 1950: January through July, was associated with Jerry L. Williams, Esq., Danville, Va. Instituted suit against the University of Virginia to gain admission to its Law School.
  • 1950: Entered the University of Virginia Law School pursuant to the ruling of the Federal Court, the first Negro student at the University of Virginia.
