African American lawyer and first black student to matriculate from the University of Virginia.

Langston High School, Danville, Virginia. 1945 Received A. B. degree from Howard University, majoring in Political Science. 1948 Received L.L.B. degree from the Howard University School of Law. 1948 49 Worked with the law firm of Hill, Martin and Robinson, Richmond, Virginia. 1950 January through July, was associated with Jerry L. Williams, Esq., Danville, Va. Instituted suit against the University of Virginia to gain admission to its Law School. 1950 Entered the University of Virginia Law School pursuant to the ruling of the Federal Court, the first Negro student at the University of Virginia. 1951 Received a Master of Laws, University of Virginia Law School.
