Erick Berry was the pseudonym of author and illustrator (Evangell) Allena Champlin Best, (1892-?), the daughter of George G. Champlin, a reference librarian at the New York State Library and May (Allen) Champlin. She grew up in Albany, New York and married first, Carroll Thayer Berry and second, (Oscar) Herbert Best. With Best, Erick Berry resided in Africa, England, Fort Ann, New York and Sharon, Connecticut.

American children's author/illustrator, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1892. Berry traveled to Africa where she met and married her husband, Herbert Best, and wrote her first books. She and Best collaborated on many books, with Berry illustrating all of his children's books and most of her own.
