Variant namesThe Los Angeles Theatre Center (formerly the Los Angeles Actors' Theatre founded in 1975 in Hollywood, Calif.) opened in 1985 in a renovated bank building in downtown Los Angeles as a key component of an urban renewal plan that was not completed. Educational programs, internships and workshops on ethnic theatre such as the Latino Theatre Lab, acting and writing were also offered in the multi-theatre complex. A significant portion of the LATC audience was from non-white communities. LAAT/LATC mounted more than 100 productions. The internationally recognized and award-winning Los Angeles Theatre Center was closed in October 1991 due to inadequate funding.
