Meeker, Warren H.

Warren H. Meeker, an 1891 Cornell University graduate, was hired as an assistant in Mechanical Engineering in July 1891. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in March 1892, Associate Professor in 1900, Professor in July 1905 and Chairman of the Department in June 1907, a position he held until 1933. He continued to teach full time as Professor Emeritus from 1934 to 1938 and part time from 1939 until his death in 1947. In 1912 he was elected to the Ames School Board, a position he held until 1945. He served periodically as President of the Board for a total of 16 years. During World War I Meeker served as director of War Training at ISC and President Wilson appointed him to a committee to investigate conditions at Camp Dodge.

From 1923 to 1925 he served as a member of the Iowa Elevator Safety Code Board. Meeker was also active on several committees at Iowa State College (University), serving for 25 years on the Scholarship Committee, starting and becoming first chairman of the Safety Committee, serving on the College Government Committee for many years, and serving as director of the Iowa State College Y.M.C.A. He was a member of numerous professional societies including: American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education, Tau Beta Phi Engineering Honorary Society and Phi Kappa Phi Science honorary society.
