The position of chair of the faculty was created in 1951. Elected to a three-year term by vote of the General Faculty, the chair serves as chair pro tem of the Faculty Council and of the General Faculty, represents the chancellor in academic matters when the chancellor requests it, and fulfills other duties as determined by the chancellor or the Faculty Council.
