Bourne, Edward Gaylord, 1860-1908
Variant namesEdward Gaylord Bourne was born on June 24, 1860. He received a B.A. from Yale in 1883 and a Ph.D. in 1892. During his graduate study at Yale he taught medieval history (1885-1887) and political science (1886-1888). He went to Adelbert College in Cleveland, Ohio in 1888, and remained on the faculty there until 1895 when he returned to Yale. Bourne was active in the American Historical Association and was known for his historical criticism and editions of historical texts. He died in New Haven on February 24, 1908.
