National Opinion Research Center (NORC), a nonprofit corporation that provides the public with a voice in matters of national concern, was founded in 1941 under the direction of Harry H. Field (1897-1946) and was affiliated with the University of Denver, Denver, Colo. Field believed a public opinion research center should not attempt to make predictions or sell products but should give voice to the ordinary people. In 1947 Clyde W. Hart became director and moved the operation to the University of Chicago. Hart left an affiliated Opinion Research Center (ORC) at the University of Denver campus to continue studies from Denver. ORC discontinued in Sept. 1949 due to financial problems.
